Composer Zigmars Liepiņš needs little introduction in Latvia. He is widely regarded as one of the country’s most distinguished and influential composers, whose work has shaped Latvian popular and theatrical music from the late 20th century to the present day.

He is the composer of several operas and the creator of the rock opera Lāčplēsis, one of the most powerful musical symbols of Latvia’s independence movement, known internationally as the Singing Revolution. His melodies have been heard in theatre productions, feature films, animated films and on the radio.

His songs have been performed by many of Latvia’s most celebrated artists, including Mirdza Zīvere, Imants Vanzovičs, Viktors Lapčenoks, Nora Bumbiere, Igo, Dons, Aivars Brīze, Ieva Kerēvica and Intars Busulis.

In 2027, Zigmars Liepiņš will celebrate his 75th birthday. To mark this special occasion, audiences are invited to experience his distinctive and unforgettable music once again at the composer’s Anniversary Concert on 16 October 2027 at Xiaomi Arena.
