Latvia – Lithuania. Friendly Game

Both teams are preparing for the European Championship, which will start for the Latvian national team on August 27 at Xiaomi Arena, and for the Lithuanian team in Tampere.

Since the summer of 2021, the Latvian national team has achieved one of the best records in the world in official matches – 29 wins in 34 games – and is ranked 9th in the FIBA standings. In the European Championship qualification tournament, Latvia was one of the three teams that won all six games. EuroBasket 2025 at home is eagerly anticipated with high expectations and determination.

The Lithuanian national team has had a slightly worse performance in recent years (23 wins in 30 games) and is ranked 10th in the FIBA standings. This is not enough for the Lithuanians. Since the fall, the team has been led by a new head coach – the ambitious Rimas Kurtinaitis, with a clear goal: to finish at least in the top five at EuroBasket 2025.

The men’s basketball teams of Latvia and Lithuania have been fierce rivals for over 100 years. Since regaining independence, they have played 28 times. Overall, Lithuania has had the upper hand (10-18), but in recent years, the balance of power has been more even: in 2022, the friendly games ended 70:52 and 62:98, in 2023, it was 69:93 in a friendly match, but in the World Cup 5th-place match, Latvia won 98:63.
